Dr Thong graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1996. After completing his Otolaryngology residency in Singapore in 2006, he proceeded onto subspecialty training in Rhinology and Sinus Surgery as a clinical fellow at the Lahey Clinic, Massachusetts, USA. Dr Thong is currently a Senior Consultant with the National University Hospital.
His particular area of specialty is that of the nose and sinus (e.g. nasal allergy, sinusitis, sino–nasal polyps and skull base tumours). His other area of interest is in snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.
Dr Thong’s research similarly revolves around sino-nasal conditions (especially nasal polyps and chronic sinusitis), and snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (running clinical trials since 2011 to develop better ways of monitoring such patients).
He is also an Assistant Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, where he is involved in teaching medical undergraduates, mentoring junior doctors, and delivering lectures or being a surgical instructor at local or regional conferences. He previously served as the Deputy Director for Clinical Services for his department, and is currently the Director of Undergraduate Education for Otolaryngology, NUS.
