Professor Piotr Kuna is Chairman of the Second Department of Medicine Medical University of Lodz. He is also Head Division of Internal Medicine, Asthma and Allergy at the Barlicki University Hospital, Lodz, Poland. Dr Kuna graduated Summa cum Laude from the Medical University of Lodz Poland in 1981. In 1987 he obtained PhD from the same University. Postdoctoral Research Training he completed in Dept. of Lung Medicine and Dept. of Microbiology and Immunology, Lund University, Sweden and in Div. of Allergy, Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA from 1988 until 1993. He is a member of many Professional Societies including AAAAI, EAACI and ERS. He was President of the Polish Society of Allergology and Vice-President of The Polish Society of Respiratory Diseases from 2000 until 2006. Currently he is CEO of the major University Hospital in Lodz and Chairmen of the Scientific Board Polpharma Foundation in Poland. He is also member of many professional advisory boards in Poland working for the government and for the industry. Dr Kuna research interest focus on advancing our knowledge on the pathogenesis of inflammation in allergic diseases, asthma and COPD. He is also involved as leading investigator in many clinical studies with new drugs developed for treatment of asthma, COPD, allergic rhinitis and other pulmonary and allergic diseases. Professor Kuna published many important papers in peer reviewed international medical journals focusing on basic and clinical research in allergy, respiratory diseases and clinical immunology.
