Dr Tan Jian Li graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) and was one of the pioneer batches to receive his Otolaryngology speciality training under the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I) residency programme. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (ENT) and obtained the Masters of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology) from NUS. He is an accredited specialist by the Singapore Medical Council and is currently a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. During his residency years, Dr Tan was also dually appointed as the Chief Resident of the National ENT Residency Programme and the NHG ENT Residency Programme.
 
Dr Tan manages general Ear, Nose and Throat disorders which include ear infections, hearing loss and tumours in the head and neck region. His sub-speciality interest is in allergy, nasal and sinus disorders as well as endoscopic skull base surgeries. He manages patients with tumours in the nose and sinuses, sinusitis, nasal polyposis and allergic rhinitis.
 
He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore and spent a year working at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, Australia as a Rhinology and Skull Base Surgical Fellow. This centre is the only centre in the entire Western Australia that treats skull base tumours; it also receives tertiary referrals of complex/revision sinus disease and sinonasal tumours.
 
He has been invited as a faculty for local and overseas teaching courses on nasal and sinus surgery, and has also contributed to national guidelines issued by the Chapter of Surgeons (Otorhinolaryngology) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr Tan has also published in both local and international peer-reviewed scientific journals including international collaborations. He is also a reviewer for both local and international Otolaryngology scientific journals.
 
Dr Tan believes in nurturing the next generation of doctors. He is currently an Adjunct Clinical Faculty of LKC School of Medicine and a Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He has served as a Medical Student Mentor for Lee Kong Chian (LKC) School of Medicine.
