Prof. Dr. Philippe Gevaert (MD, PhD) is full professor in Rhinology and Allergy at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Chairman medical education at the Ghent University, Belgium. Further, he is the scientific coordinator of the Allergy Network of the Ghent University Hospital and his clinical and research activities are focused on allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps.

Since 1998 he is active in the Upper Airway Research Laboratory at the University of Ghent (Prof Dr Paul Van Cauwenberge and Prof Dr Claus Bachert). In 2001 he was working at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden (Prof Dr SGO Johansson). His research was focused on local IgE expression and eosinophilic inflammation in allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps. In 2004 he passed his PhD thesis on “Eosinophilic inflammation in nasal polyposis: Regulation of interleukin 5 and interleukin 5 receptor α isoforms”. Currently, his research is focused on local IgE, allergen specific immunotherapy and biologicals in allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps. He has conducted several academic and industry sponsored clinical trials with novel treatments in nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers. He received 9 international research awards.

He is the past Chairman of the ENT section of the EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology).
