FACULTY
PROF HYUNG-JU CHO
Professor Department of Otorhinolaryngology Yonsei University College of Medicine Seoul, South Korea At present, I serve as a Professor at the Yonsei University College of Medicine. My academic journey combines exceptional basic and clinical research contributions to the field of otorhinolaryngology. After completing my education at Hallym University School of Medicine, my research career flourished during my postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University's CF Research Lab, where I investigated fundamental mechanisms of mucus secretion in submucosal glands.
My research portfolio reflects an integration of basic science and clinical applications. In laboratory investigations, I've explored pathways such as PAR2-dependent fluid secretion, hypoxia-mediated mechanisms of MUC5AC production, and the Th2 cytokines-DUOX2-ROS-HMGB1 translocation axis in allergic rhinitis pathogenesis. This molecular focus has significantly advanced understanding of respiratory epithelial dysfunction using cutting-edge experimental techniques. Simultaneously, my clinical research has transformed treatment approaches for obstructive sleep apnea. The impact of my work spans multiple interconnected areas, examining how chronic intermittent hypoxia affects cardiovascular, auditory, and immune systems using animal OSA models. Computational analysis collaborations exploring airflow dynamics for predicting collapsible upper airway sites showcase my commitment to interdisciplinary research. As Professor at Yonsei University, I continue to lead investigations that connect clinical and basic research fields.
