Dr David K L Tay is a certified prosthodontic specialist and was a former full-time faculty member in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore. Since 1993, he has been in full-time private practice limited to prosthodontics, dental sleep medicine, and the management of chronic orofacial pain and temporo-mandibular disorders. 

He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) and one of the few who holds membership in both the Chapter of Prosthodontists, College of Dental Surgeons, and Chapter of Sleep Medicine Physicians. In 2015, he established the NUS Edmund Tay Mai Hiong Endowed Fund in honour of his late father who was the founding Dean of the Dental School. The goal of this NUS endowment is not only to introduce sleep medicine to the local dental profession, but also to raise public and medical community awareness of dentistry's emergent role in the early recognition and co-management of many sleep-related disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea. 

He is the Past-President of the Prosthodontic Society of Singapore and former Chairman, Chapter of Dental Surgeons, Academy of Medicine (Singapore). He serves on the Scientific and Education Committee of the World Dentofacial Sleep Society, and is also a member of the Singapore Dental Sleep Medicine Research and Training Advisory Committee. He is currently the Clinical Director of the Specialist Division, T32 Dental Group, Camden Medical Centre, Singapore.
